Scandal in the Piedmont Region: notices of guarantee for 52 councilors, including Cota and some grillini

The Turin financial police are delivering guarantee notices to 52 Piedmontese regional councilors, on charges of embezzlement, fraud and illicit financing. They would have used irregularly - often for personal purposes - the annual funding provided by the Region for the reimbursement of expenses for the political activity of the council groups. The investigation renamed Sprecopoli began last autumn after the arrest of Fiorito in Lazio, and also involves excellent names such as that of the president Roberto Cota and some representatives of the 5 Star Movement.

In December, the first four councilors had ended up in the register of suspects. With today's blitz, only four representatives of the Piedmontese "parliamentino" are saved. The investigation refers to the years 2010, 2011 and 2012, those of the council of Northern League Roberto Cota. “The councilors are variously distributed among the groups represented in the Region – declares the chief prosecutor Gian Carlo Caselli – There are significant differences between the various individual positions, both for the reason for the repayments and for the total amount. Therefore, only the development and conclusion of the investigation will allow a precise and complete definition of these positions”. Among the political groups, the Movimento 5 Stelle is also involved and the governor of Piedmont Cota being regional councilor. "I have already spontaneously gone to the prosecutors to clarify my position", said Cota, who points out: "Not a single euro has ended up in my current account and in this sense the prosecutor has not raised any objections".
