Saccomanni: "Possible sale of Enel, Eni and Finmeccanica to reduce debt"

Il Tesoro could sell the shares of companies such as Eni, Enel or Finmeccanica to raise cash and reduce the debt. This was announced by Minister Fabrizio Saccomanni during an interview given in Moscow, where the G20 of finance ministers is being held, to Bloomberg TV. The reopening of the privatization dossier was also confirmed by Prime Minister Enrico Letta during his visit a few days ago to the City of London.

The sale of company shares is for Saccomanni "a possibility to consider". However, the minister added that “these companies are profitable and give dividends to the Treasury, so we must also consider the possibility of using them as collateral for the public debt reduction schemes we are thinking about. There are a number of hypotheses that we are considering."

By the end of the year, Saccomanni explained again, the Executive should clarify its plans: “We have announced as one of the key strategic initiatives an acceleration of privatization schemes involving the real estate assets we own, but we are also considering the possibility of reducing public shares in investee companies".
