Between the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the new millennium, the city of Rome partially changed its appearance by promoting and welcoming contemporary architectural creations by internationally recognized masters: from Renzo Piano's Auditorium to Zahha Hadid's MAXXI, to Macro by Odile Decq, at Richard Meier's Ara Pacis and Jubilee Church, and numerous other small and large-scale projects of convention facilities, bridges, parks.
The meaning and scope of these contemporary interventions in the city will be explored during the meeting "Contemporary architecture in Rome: Richard Meier" Tuesday 24 February, at 16 pm and with free admission to the Ara Pacis Museum. FRANCESCO MOSCHINI, professor of history of contemporary architecture at the Polytechnic of Bari, will trace a broad framework of reference starting from the architecture of the second post-war period up to today, from the Mausoleum of the Fosse Ardeatine to the "Roma Tiburtina" high-speed station by ABDR Architetti Associati , analyzing the contributions of Italian architectural culture and the international specificity of some important episodes. In the narration of these events and in examining the debate on the new architecture of the city, Richard Meier's contribution to the Ara Pacis Museum and to a new configuration of the area of the square facing the Lungotevere will be explored.
