Despite a few too many disappointments, in particular the wooden medal in fencing (men's foil team) but also in target shooting and archery, on Friday 12 August Italy takes home three medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics. One for each metal: the gold of newcomer Diana Bacosi in clay pigeon shooting, skeet specialty, where in the final she defeated the other blue Chiara Cainero, already gold medalist in Beijing 2008 in this competition, while in the Brazilian morning the beautiful had arrived rowing bronze, in the final of the men's coxless 4 with Giuseppe Vicino, Matteo Castaldo, Matteo Lodo and Domenico Montrone who made a great comeback avoiding yet another fourth place for Italy.
Now the blue medals are 15: 4 golds, 7 silvers and 4 bronzes. For the first time we have slipped out of the top ten of the general medal table, but the balance is currently in line with expectations and with the performance of London 2012, even if perhaps something is missing from fencing, which for the first time in many years has contributed to the blue booty with only two medals.
However, other podiums could arrive on Saturday 13 August: in particular, on the Italian night between Saturday and Sunday, there will be the eagerly awaited final of the 1500m freestyle, in which Gregorio Paltrinieri presents himself as the favorite and with the best qualifying time. Also qualified for the final Gabriele Detti, already bronze in the 400 freestyle, with the fifth time. On Friday Tania Cagnotto also qualified for the semi-final of diving from the 3-metre springboard: the semi-final is on Saturday, the race for the medals on Sunday at 21 Italian time. Going back to Saturday, there are also some medals in men's skeet, but the best hopes are again for Sunday the 14th, with the last act of men's epee fencing in teams, rifle shooting and precisely Tania Cagnotto, in case of qualification.
