Reopenings, protest by spa companies: "Too much confusion"

On the reopening of the baths the government is in contradiction. This is the accusation that Federturismo and Federalberghi address to the executive, contesting the date of July XNUMXst as a reopening day for spas and water parks. In fact – they underline – the baths have never closed and continued to provide essential services.

They are 320 spas in Italy, attended every year by an average of 3 million people, of which 12% are foreigners. Veneto is the first Italian region with 85 spa companies, followed by Campania (55) and Tuscany (23). The thermal system guarantees (2019 data) approx 800 million in turnover only in the healthcare sector and reaches i two billion if related industries are taken into account.

According to Emanuele Boaretto, president of Federalberghi Terme, on the new guidelines defined by the Conference of Regions "it is useful to remember that the Italian thermal establishments are already open today for the services included in the essential levels of assistance (for example mud bath therapy and inhalations) and for rehabilitative and therapeutic activities. We do not quite understand which hypotheses of thermalism are referred to when it comes to reopening on July XNUMX ".

Marina Lalli, president of Federturismo Confindustria echoes him: “We remain perplexed by the confusion that is being generated in these hours on the different reopening dates. The spas, due to their characteristic activity, i.e. thermal medical treatments, they have remained open even in periods of lockdown and therefore it would be curious to close them right now". So "as for the thermal establishments, we are confident that it is clearly an oversight".

Not only. “Frankly – adds Marina Lalli – we don't understand why the theme parks can only reopen in July, thus losing a decisive month like June in terms of tourist arrivals. Among other things, theme parks play a driving role for many destinations which, without their opening, risk being left with empty hotels and restaurants”.
