Motor liability, new rules canceled by the Destination Italy decree

Article 8 of the Destinazione Italia decree, which contains some controversial rules on motor liability policies, will be removed. The decision was made this morning in the meeting between the Government and the group leaders of the majority.

According to many, the disputed article penalized small businesses to the benefit of insurance companies. On the other hand, the package of standards had also met the opposition of Ania.

But the choice to remove article 8 has another key to understanding: the discussions on motor liability, which in the last year recorded a sharp drop in prices, were slowing down the work, putting the approval of the whole at risk measure.

“Once again politics decides not to decide – comments ANIA –, pressed by corporate thrusts of categories interested exclusively in the intermediation of compensation to the detriment of consumers. An opportunity has been lost to approve measures capable of encouraging virtuous behavior of policyholders and effectively countering widespread phenomena of serious illegality and tax evasion”.
