Rai, Supervision: ok Tarantola president

Final cheer for Anna Maria Tarantola at the helm of Rai. From Supervisory Commission, whose opinion is binding, a sort of plebiscite has arrived: 31 votes in favour, one blank and two blank ballots. There were six absentees: the three Northern League supporters, two members of the IDV and the radical Beltrandi.

Tuesday on newly elected Board of Viale Mazzini had given the go-ahead for nomination of the economist – former deputy general manager of Bank of Italy – indicated by Prime Minister Mario Monti. That was the last vote really in the balance, since four directors of the PDL contested the powers attributed to the new president.

Having overcome that obstacle, Tarantula had no difficulty in obtaining even today the support of the PDL. “We feel protected by the law and by the Consulta – said Alessio Butti, PDL supervisory group leader -, for this reason we voted in favour. The law reaffirms the collegiality of the decisions of the Board of Directors, which is a projection of the Parliament and which the law has made parliamentarian". The "sentences of the Constitutional Court from 74 to 2009" go in the same direction.

The opinion of Fabrizio Morri, group leader, was positive Pd in Vigilance: “We are satisfied, a tiring process ends – he said -, but it ended well. Rai has a president who will not only cut ribbons but will have the powers to decide. We will accompany this effort in Parliament, it will be necessary to modify the Gasparri law in a more radical way and ensure that Rai is a real public service".
