The red is gone. Rai closed the 2013 financial statements with a surplus of 5 million euros. The previous year it had recorded a loss of 244 million, due to the decline in advertising and costs for sports rights.

This was reported by the general manager of the company Luigi Gubitosi, who illustrated the results to journalists after the board of directors unanimously voted on the budget.

According to Gubitosi, the result is in line with the industrial plan of viale Mazzini, and the goal of being "firmly" profitable in 2015 is confirmed.

The fall in revenues, 38 million euro less than in 2012 (in particular -8,5% on advertising), was compensated by the cut in costs, which fell by 12%.

The net financial situation stands at -440 million euros, compared to 366 at the end of 2012.

The gross operating margin was 663 million, +169 million compared to the previous year. The operating result recorded +231 million over the year, to 66 million.

Viewers have improved, after years of decline: in prime time Rai had a 40% share, among the best in Europe.
