Quadrato, the contemporary building in the ancient heart of Turin

In the heart of Turin, in the Roman Quadrilateral, it was born Squareil recovery of the ancient convent of Sant'Agostino, between via delle Orfane and via Santa Chiara, transformed by GGroup Building in a contemporary condominium. A house designed for a mobile, flexible, creative class, also for those who live in Turin on a fixed-term basis or for those who visit it for work, tourism and leisure. Inside, in the area of the former convent of Sant'Agostino, the Turin branch of the International Medical Group Isokinetic.

Through his design studio Boffa, Petrone & Partners, after having worked on the sides of Piazza San Carlo, first on the Baroque in via Alfieri with The Number 6 "the most beautiful house in the world" (ArchDaily award as Building of the Year 2015), then on the Neoclassical with Lagrange12, restoration of a building of the '600, Building inaugurates the new house inside a ecclesiastical structure dating back to the XNUMXth century, confirming its mission to safeguard Turin's historic housing heritage. The apartments of the condominium can be rented, even for short and medium-term stays, thus a formula was born urban relay in a historical context. Quadrato is a real estate investment in the most historic heart of the city, a few steps from Piazza della Consolata of the historic Al Bicerin café, in the alleys of the Quadrilatero, an area of shops, antique shops, design, furniture, historic clubs and cafés, a few steps from Porta Palazzo, the largest market in Europe.

“With Quadrato we worked on the transformation of a place that has the charm of history, a history dating back to Roman times. From a former Augustinian convent to a condominium for contemporary youth, in the Roman heart of Turin, we inaugurate a project that combines the home and the contemporary residence, art with the avant-garde medicine of our Isokinetic tenants and with the findings that have emerged we hope that many Turinese and travelers visit the archaeological area of the ancient Roman domus. Quadrato, as in the custom of our projects, is a work of protection and redefinition of living, open and shared with the citizens" he declared Piero Boffa, President of Building group.

Square houses inside Isokineticcenter for sports medicine and orthopedic rehabilitation of excellence, becoming the new benchmark for sports medicine e la rehabilitation orthopedics in Turin.

Two souls, those of Building and Isokinetic, are linked to a common thread of tradition and passion for well-being. The encounter with Isokinetic transforms Quadrato into a space of "Health", understood not as the simple absence of disease, or resolution of a trauma, but coherently with the definition of the World Health Organization, as a "State of complete physical, mental and social and not simply the absence of disease”.

Isokinetic spaces develop within Square Up 5 plans hosting medical outpatient clinics diagnostics and specialistsrehabilitation pool and gyma laboratory for biomechanical analysis and motion correction equipped with video walls, cameras and strength platform, offices, waiting rooms, changing rooms and a synthetic turf field where you can regain confidence with your body and recover all the specific sport functions.

“Today we are preparing to raise the bar and face a new improvement challenge”, says the Dr. Fabrizio Tencone, Director of Isokinetic Turin “We have always believed in the recovery and prevention of injuries through exercise, and the treatment spaces of the new Isokinetic center in via delle Orfane will satisfy all the clinical and therapeutic needs during the entire patient care process. The motivational and psychological stimulus component of being in an architecturally beautiful, functional space equipped with the most modern technologies is an integral part of the service we want to offer".

The union that arises between the Boffa family group and the company of excellence in the sports medical field is part of the continuity of Building's attention towards il wellnessand with the idea of the group's buildings as active places, dedicated to self-care. Already in Roman times in fact the court of Quadrato housed a thermal area: a intended use for the new condominium in the heart of the contemporary city which, through Isokinetic, evokes the ancient Augusta Taurinorum.

Indeed, during the restoration work they emerged archaeological finds of exceptional consistency. It is a vast complex from the Imperial Roman era dating back to around the XNUMXst and XNUMXrd century, probably used as commercial or public premises, with mosaic decoration representing the mythological figure of the hunter Actaeonmauled by his dogs. In synergy with the Superintendency of Architectural and Cultural Heritage of Piedmont, the Building Group has opted for the possibility of saving the complete portion of the archaeological finds. In the courtyard between via delle Orfane and via San Domenico will be born therefore a large area archeologica of Roman Turin, the new Roman domus of Quadrato. THEarea archeological it will be visitable and open to the public from spring 2019.  “As often happens, the excavations necessary to carry out underground works – in this case a parking lot – restore the memory of the most ancient phases of our city; in this case part of a public building in Augusta Taurinorum has emerged, enriched by a mosaic floor with a figurative emblem. Thus, thanks to the active collaboration with the Building Group, our city not only recovers and returns to use and enjoyment a convent building in the center that has been abandoned for some time, but also rediscovers an important testimony of its past as an imperial city". declares the architect Luisa PapottiSuperintendent of Archaeology, fine arts and landscape for the metropolitan city of Turin.

Beyond archeology, Building also renews its commitment to public art commissioning. With IL BULLsymbol of Turin that looks to the future, the new work of the artist Richi Ferrero, in continuity with the works created at Lagrange 12 and The Number 6, will be freely accessible to citizens. “This Golden Horned Bull is a vision of the city, of what it was and what it will be. The frame that freezes the moment of the breakthrough is the change of Turin in the present whenever the gaze of the passer-by catches its presence” thus the artist describes his new creation for Quadrato, a new gift to Turin.

With Quadrato, two entrepreneurial excellences, an artist from the area and the Superintendency of Architectural and Cultural Heritage of Piedmont, have converged their energies by investing in the development of the city.
