St – Microelectronics will carry out an investment project in the latest generation semiconductor sector in Catania. The project, which will be implemented with an important public contribution in the form of a Development Contract, was approved by the European Commission following an effective liaison work with the Ministry of Economic Development.
This is the very first major project in the 107-3a area that the Community Executive has approved in accordance with the 2014-2020 Regional Guidelines.
The notified and approved investment project concerns the expansion of the production capacity of the 200mm line for power semiconductors in the Catania plant, whose position as an important specialized cluster in the field of power electronics, thus comes to be further strengthened.
The objective is to create in Catania products with rapid growth and higher added value, therefore more resistant to the cost competition that comes from the Asian areas, thanks also to further technological and product R&D activities.
