According to De Petris, the first instance sentence was severe, but fair: "The severity of the disciplinary treatment is undeniable, for my part, however, I point out that the first instance sentence gave an account of the overall reasons regarding the fact that the disciplinary treatment does not could be attested to the minimum statutory penalty". For the magistrate, as mentioned, "There is no reason to grant the former prime minister general extenuating circumstances, both for the alleged crimes and for the overall behavior of the defendant".
