Ports of Genoa and Savona: from Cdp 31,5 million to improve both road and rail accessibility

Cassa Depositi e Prestiti granted a financing worth 31,5 million euros to the Port System Authority (AdSP) of the Western Ligurian Sea for the implementation of interventions to improve both road and rail accessibility of the ports of Genoa and Savona, "guaranteeing greater safety and contributing to urban regeneration, and to carry out infrastructure and dredging works", explains the Cassa in a note. The port agency has announced that the loan has a pre-amortisation period until December 31, 2024, regulated at a variable rate, and an amortization of 12 years, regulated at a fixed rate.

Ports of Genoa and Savona: over 500 new jobs

With regard to the Port of Genoa, a note explains, the credit line will allow dredging work to be carried out on Nino Ronco bridge, the Sampierdarena basin and passenger port: works aimed at restoring the depth of the seabed in order to improve navigability and docking at the quay. Furthermore, thanks to the financial support of CDP, the Ronco Canepa Container Terminal will be expanded, with the construction of a new quay and a square. Finally, the restoration works will be completed on the portion of the Genoa breakwater, which had been damaged by the storm surges of recent years.

As far as the Savona area is concerned, the funding is intended for the upgrading works of the railway park of the port terminal of Vado Ligure, an area where containers passing through the port are loaded and unloaded onto freight trains. With these funds, then, the restoration of the breakwaters (piers and dams for the defense of the port) of both the Vado and Savona basins will be defined.

According to a recent study on the impact analysis of the planned works plan, investments for the development of the port infrastructures of Genoa and Savona are capable of generating over 500 new jobs. In addition to Liguria, other regions will benefit from the construction of these works, given that the companies awarded the contracts also come from Lombardy, Lazio and Piedmont.
