Pompeii: redevelopment of the area and nearby municipalities, a breakthrough worth 900 million euros

The plan for Pompeii and nine neighboring municipalities is finally in a position to start. The expenditure also concerns mobility, infrastructure, protection of the coastal strip

Pompeii: redevelopment of the area and nearby municipalities, a breakthrough worth 900 million euros

The true value of the 900 million spent around Pompeii lies in the redevelopment of the entire area surrounding thearcheological area. The Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini between one electoral meeting and another, he gave the green light to investments for the special project for Pompeii. He chaired the Management Committee of the Strategic Plan for socio-economic development, indicating a story of redemption in the city destroyed by Vesuvius, a model for relaunching the South. All the project is linked with the UNESCO management plan "Archaeological areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata". An archaeological and environmental turning point that will have to do justice to so many urban and environmental ugliness that has grown out of control. There are nine Municipalities interested in getting out of a sort of tourist anonymity. The strategic plan it required some updating, now it is just waiting for the assignment of the works.

The redevelopment of the Municipalities will bring new tourists

Indeed, the "Vesuvius-Pompeii-Naples" contract must receive expressions of interest and it is hoped that the procedures will be rapid. However, there is a special "Great Pompeii" Unit to keep things going. Among other things, the meeting with the Minister took note of an important economic-financial change: 594 million euros are for interventions already financed and 337 million for interventions to be financedThe impact will be general on Campania starting with the construction of a railway hub in the city of Pompeii costing over 30 million euros. To make the works less impactful and the movements of both tourists and residents more sustainable, the Torre Annunziata - Castellammare di Stabia - Gragnano railway line will be replaced by trams. It's not nice to know that the area also needs work on the sewage system. But anyhow, so the works will involve the completion of the sewage and collection schemes of the Municipalities of the area affected by the Unesco Management Plan. The nearby Sarno river - one of the most polluted in Europe, fortunately far from the excavations - will absorb around 200 million euros. The sea, then, is a stone's throw from the sites and the Ministry of Culture he also took charge of the environmental-landscape requalification of the coastal strip

Schools are also mobilizing for Pompeii

“A lot has been done in Pompeii from a legislative, financial and managerial point of view. Now this site has become a model recognized by UNESCO and the European Union for the functioning and use of Community resources. Pompei it is a symbol of the change that can be achieved throughout the Mezzogiorno,” Franceschini said. Basically it is a master plan shared with local authorities who expect a lot. Gabriel Zuchtriegel, Director of the Pompeii Park with regard to the interest of the territory recalls the work of 80 students from local schools in a theatrical production of the Parco elto enhance the green areas of the Park sites, through the Pompeii Agricultural Company project. This summer the excavations of Herculaneum didn't go badly either, where other resources have already been invested. They have produced "results in terms of employment impact and longer stays in the territory of tourists" he adds Francis Sirano Director of the Herculaneum Park. Solidarity between all those involved leads to exalt the work of the Ministry of Culture and the government. The works require an out of the ordinary commitment with the stake of radically changing the face of one of the most prestigious historic areas in the world.
