Phillips presents a collaboration with the Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) for the second edition of The Sovereign Art Foundation Students Prize, London

Phillips and SAF: second edition of the London prize for secondary school students

Established in 2012, the Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) Student Award is an annual award designed to celebrate the importance of art in the education system and recognize the quality of artwork produced by secondary school students across the city and this year is generously supported by Praemium. As an Official Partner of the Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) Student Award Venue, Phillips will host the 20 selected works in an exhibition of the finalists at the Phillips London venue at 30 Berkeley Square, where it will run alongside New Now from 2nd to 9th December 2021.

The finalists were selected from 136 works by a judging panel made up of professionals from different facets of the art world, an exciting panel including Caroline Walker, Visual Artist, Eugenio Re Rebaudengo, Founder of ARTUNER, Howard Bilton, Founder and President of SAF, Hugo Wilson, British artist and sculptor, Idris Khan, British contemporary artist, Kamiar Maleki, director of Volta Art Fairs, Melanie Gerlis, art market columnist for the Financial Times, and Tamila Kerimova, specialist, director, manager of the Daily Sales, 20th Century and Contemporary Art, Phillips.

The overall winner of The Sovereign Art Foundation Students Prize, London 2021 will be determined when the judging panel personally reviews the shortlisted works at the Finalists Exhibition; selecting a student to be awarded the Jury Prize trophy and £800 (their school art department will receive £2.000). To boost audience engagement and increase student exposure, visitors to the exhibition are also invited to vote for their favorite finalist artwork to receive a Public Vote Award trophy and £400 (and their school's £ 1.000). Online voting will also be accepted by the general public via the web gallery with voting closing at 18:00 GMT on 6 December 2021. In addition, students can choose to enter their works in a silent auction – the proceeds of which are divided between the artist and the Foundation. This year SAF selected Place 2 Be, a children's mental health charity, to receive the funds raised.

SAF operates ten Student Awards worldwide, the first of which was established in 2012 in Hong Kong, followed by Bahrain, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Malta, Mauritius, Portugal and Singapore. Winners from London will compete against winners of other prizes competing for the Global Students Prize.
