Open Fiber: construction sites have started that will lead Naples towards 100% fiber optic coverage

Open Fiber, the company that builds the FTTH fiber infrastructure, has launched i new construction sites for the 100% completion of the cover in optical fiber a Napoli.
The jobs are part of the "Italy Plan at 1 Giga" within the PNRR and will make it possible to connect over a thousand street numbers in the Neapolitan capital to the ultra-fast fiber optic network.

Coverage in new areas of the city

The new Open Fiber intervention in Naples provides for the coverage of hitherto untouched areas from very high capacity networks (VHCN – Very High Capacity Network): in particular, the works are concentrated in some portions of the districts Pianura, Soccavo, Secondigliano, Camaldoli and the industrial area.

In the city of Naples, over 417 thousand real estate units have been connected thanks to a private investment of around 120 million euros.

The ultrabroadband network also makes it possible to connect municipal public services, enabling the so-called Smart City which makes urban centers modern, technologically advanced and future-proof.

Work is also underway in other municipalities in Campania where a first phase is planned with coverage of over 16 house numbers, equivalent to around 40 real estate units.

Reducing the digital divide in Southern Italy

“The start of construction sites in the Naples area aims at reduce further the digital divide, thus guaranteeing everyone the right to connect which has become fundamental for study, work, business activities and leisure. The award of the Infratel Italia tender financed with public funds from the PNRR testifies to theconstant commitment of Open Fiber for connect Southern Italy, favoring social cohesion through the development of the ultra-broadband network and making it attractive for economic investments" he said John Schiattarella, field manager coordinator Campania of Open Fiber.
