Rio Olympics: terrorists arrested ready to strike

The opening of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games is just around the corner and the alert on possible attacks is rising day by day.

Not very heartening news arrives from Brazil: the federal police have arrested a group of potential terrorists ready to strike during the Olympics. About ten people, all Brazilian citizens who would have sworn allegiance to ISIS by offering to carry out an attack during the Games. All recruited and educated via the web. None of them would be in Syria or Iraq for direct training.

Based on the information provided by the investigators, the group constitutes a real terrorist cell, capable of acting along the lines of the Orlando and Paris attacks. The police would have monitored exchanges of messages for weeks, especially on WhatsApp and Telegram, through which they would also have discovered the attempt to buy weapons, including a machine gun in Paraguay.

Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes explained: "We intervened when from the apology of the recent massacres, the messages began to show preparatory acts for an action".
