On nuclear power, Paris sails against the tide and paves the way for new investments. In stark opposition to what is happening in various European countries, including Germany and Italy, after the Fukushima disaster, President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that France "will invest one billion euros in the power stations of the future", i.e. those " of the fourth generation". The French head of state insistently reaffirmed his belief in this type of energy, trying at the same time to reassure minds with the promise to also increase "research for the safety of the atom".
Sarkozy's words came during a press conference convened to take stock of the progress of the 35 billion euro investment plan on the most advanced sectors of the national economy. The head of the Elysée, on the other hand, assured that in parallel with nuclear power, the commitment will also continue on other fronts, specifying that "1,35 billion euros will be invested in renewable energies and zero-emission production processes".
