This year on Italian non-performing loan market transactions will be carried out for a total amount equal to 50 billion euros. A considerable figure, but still much lower than the 66 billion recorded in 2018. The forecast comes from Bank Ifis, which has published the eighth edition of its Npl observatory.
The analysis also shows that in Italy there are still 266 billion gross NPLs to manage.
“To do so – reads the report – we need a real NPL transformation industry: an industry whose primary task is to restore the debtor's status. Of this huge stock of non-performing loans, equal to 13% of Italian GDP, 118 billion gross are still recorded in the banks' balance sheets, while 154 billion have already been transferred to funds, servicers or specialized banks (from 2015 to the end of last year) ; Finally, 7 billion which at the end of 2018 are estimated to have been partially recovered and partially 'cancelled' as they are no longer collectible on the transacted portfolios".
