Appointments 2021, seven new CEOs in the Ftse Mib

That of the managing director is no longer a lifetime assignment, not even in Italy. Mobility at the top of the major companies listed on the Stock Exchange is also growing here. In 2021, seven CEOs among the forty companies of the Ftse Mib in Piazza Affari left the scene: two in the banks, two in the Agnelli-Elkann galaxy, one in the incumbent of the TLCs and two in medium-large companies.

Among the banks, both the Bper and above all Unicredit have changed the number one. At the helm of Bper, which bought new branches from Intesa after the takeover bid on Ubi Banca, a banker with the experience of P has arrivedIero Montani, who took the place of Alessandro Vandelli, who had been in office for seven years. But the most sensational changing of the guard in the banking world is naturally that of Unicredit, where Jean Pierre Mustier, accused by the major shareholders and above all by institutional funds, has left the scene, leaving his armchair to the Cristiano Ronaldo of the M&A, the Roman with extensive international experience, Andrea Orcell which is trying, with the new industrial plan just presented, to relaunch the bank in Piazza Aulenti and to shorten the distance from Intesa Sanpaolo.

Two prominent changes also in the Agnelli galaxy where the president of Exor, John Elkann, called new managers to lead both CNH and Ferrari. In CNH, which is starting the spin-off of the Iveco trucks, Elkann has replaced Suzanne Heywood - who had temporarily taken over from Hubertus Mulhauser - with the new CEO Scott Wine, who comes from the US Navy and who is known as a great expert on mergers and acquisitions. The change of CEO to Ferrari was also conspicuous, where he arrived at the helm of the Maranello Red Benedict Vigna, a great technology expert, who replaces Louis Camilleri.

But another change that made noise is that of Tim, where the CEO Luigi Gubitosi, former CEO of Alitalia and Rai, resigned in the face of criticism for three profit warnings, leaving the door open to the succession which, barring unforeseen events, should lead the forthcoming appointment of the new CEO in the person of the current General Manager of the company, Peter Labriola, who for now also remains CEO of Tim Brasil.

Saipem and Recordati complete the CEO waltz. In Saipem, the major shareholders – Cdp and Eni – called an old acquaintance of public and private companies such as Francesco Caio who has taken the place of Stefano Cao and is preparing to launch the new plan of the oil plant engineering company. In Recordati, on the other hand, the family leaves the CEO chair to an external manager, the Dutch Robert Koremans who can boast a long experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
