Nokia, losses lower than expected

The Finnish giant closed the third quarter with a negative profit of 68 million euros, when analysts had expected a loss of 321 million. Good sales of dual Sim mobile phones. The EBIT margin of the mobile phone sales segment stood at 4,1%.

The Finnish mobile phone giant continues to fight against the most pessimistic who already give it up for lost. In the third quarter of 2011 Nokia recorded a drop in sales of 13% compared to the same period last year, to 8,98 billion euros, but expectations did not exceed 8,67 billion. Not even the net loss corresponds to expectations: a drop of 321 million euros was expected when the loss was "only" 68 million euros. However, it remains a strongly negative figure if compared with the net profit of 529 million in the same period of 2010. The operating loss was equal to 71 million euros, a clear decrease compared to the 403 million in the third quarter of 2010. profitability index: the Ebit margin of the mobile phone division was 4,1%, when analysts had expected 0,1%.

Nokia has sold 16,8 million smartphones. But the best performance has been obtained with dual Sim mobile phones. The average price of mobile phones has dropped to 51 euros in this third quarter, against 65 euros in the same period of 2010. However, the negative performance of the share on the Stock Exchange continues: the share has lost 45% since the CEO in February Elop said it will start building new smartphones using the Windows Mobile operating system in collaboration with Microsoft.
