Nexta: project presented for a 2.2 gigawatt wind farm in the Adriatic

Un wind farm in the Adriatic, in the body of water south of the Gargano. Nereus, a company of the Nexta Capital Partners group, has filed an application for a maritime state concession to build a marine park with floating technology, approximately east of Vieste (FG), at distances between 24 km and 48 km from the landing point in municipality of Barletta (BT) and depth indicatively between about 80 and 120 m.

The park will therefore rise in extra territorial waters and will occupy a stretch of water of approximately 6,7 million square meters which will host 147 wind turbines with a total power of 2.205 megawatts (MW). Thanks to the radius of curvature of the earth, the park will be barely noticeable from the coast and its own landscape impact tightly mitigated.

The Nereus project will annually produce up to five terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity which will be partly fed into the national transmission grid and partly converted into green hydrogen. The amount of electricity produced by the park will satisfy the annual requirement of 2,5 million homes and enable decarbonisation equivalent to the planting of nearly ten million trees.

Fabrizio Caputo, co-founder e managing director di Nexta Capital Partners, declared: “Nereus aims to be a significant response to the Italian objectives of energy independence and clean energy supply. The construction will make it possible to avoid carbon dioxide emissions of over 3 million tons per year, contributing to global decarbonisation. The project is based on the most advanced principles of sustainability and sharing with the local community".

Michele Mettola, co-founder e managing director of Nexta Capital Partners, said: “Nereus will become an icon of the Italian and European energy industry in this historic phase of energy transition. It is a project which, for the construction and operation of the plant, will generate an important supply chain creating a high added value for the local economy”.
