Nationalize Alitalia or reduce taxes? The hallucinating debate on the future of the company

The defense to the bitter end, without "ifs" and "buts", of Alitalia's Italian identity is leading to drift and last night's debate at "Porta a porta" was the latest manifestation of it - A part of the political forces, without ever questioning the company's losses, he seems to dream of nationalization even at the cost of giving up reducing taxes

The amazing drift that is taking the public confrontation on economic and political disaster of Alitalia borders on the incredible every day, but truly lunar levels were reached in last night's episode of "Porta a porta" on Rai 1, in which the two well-known experts (!) of air transport such as Mara Carfagna of the Pdl and Paola De Micheli of the Pd. It must have been late but everyone - encouraged by Bruno Vespa - recited his false-patriotic litany to support the absolute indispensability of the national airline - in spite of its losses which have already cost the country several billions - and the defense without "ifs" and without "buts" of the government plan which provides for the intervention in the capital of Alitalia by Poste Italiane fueled by the postal savings of many unaware Italians. Only the columnist of the "Corriere della Sera" Antonio Polito raised reasonable doubts and wisely recalled that, not by chance, British Airways, Iberia and Lufthansa accuse us of state aid for the Alitalia-Poste operation.

It is needless to point out that too many times the “strategic” word for Alitalia forgetting that in economic theory "strategic" is not a synonym of "important" and only applies to assets that contribute significantly to the formation of GDP but above all that are not replicable. This is not the case with Alitalia after the skies have been liberalized and the airlines that citizens can use are countless.

But what worries is the hidden goal behind it the bizarre and confused speeches that are fashionable on Alitalia (let us spread a pitiful veil over the absurd interchangeability of international alliances) and of which there was an unpleasant manifestation yesterday evening, namely – Vespa also said it, referring to state intervention in banks in the USA and in England – which, in the end, if the Poste operation does not go through, it would be appropriate to think, albeit as a last resort, of the nationalization of the airline. After all, there is still Pantalone, or not? And it matters little that in Belgium and Switzerland the old airlines went bankrupt without shocking the world, while the bankruptcy of Lehman was enough to unleash the global financial crisis.

Such a discourse on the future of Alitalia is so ramshackle and rash which deserves not even a comment, but since politics is once again inappropriately putting its nose on Alitalia's corporate affairs, it would be enough to ask the parliamentarians and ministers who improvise sorcerer's apprentices at the bedside of the airline the following question: better the renationalization of Alitalia or tax reduction?

Dear parliamentarians, try asking your constituents, and be thankful if you don't receive insults.
