Napolitano: "Consolidate the euro." Berlusconi at the Quirinal

“The consolidation of the euro is an essential priority for Europe but it is also of vital interest for the world economy”. These are the words used by the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, on the occasion of the "EU-US Legal Economic Affairs Forum". The Head of State underlines that "the strengthening of the single currency is inseparable from the development of closer integration, including European politics". The commitment to take “all the necessary measures to strengthen the single currency – Napolitano added – is inseparable from the development of closer integration, including European politics, and at the same time implies stronger Euro-Atlantic cooperation, in the awareness that only in this way we will be able to express effective solutions and open up new development prospects for our societies”.

In these minutes Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is expected at the Quirinale, who will have to report on the maneuver and on the outcome of the European trip to Brussels and Strasbourg. Today the Finance Minister and German Vice Chancellor, Philipp Roesler, also landed in Rome, who will meet separately with the Ministers of Economy and Economic Development, Giulio Tremonti and Paolo Romani, to then be received at Palazzo Koch by Mario Draghi, governor of Bank of Italy and next president of the ECB. The meeting between Minister Tremonti and the heads of ABI and Confindustria is scheduled for tomorrow morning at the Ministry of Economy.
