US mortgages: Wells Fargo negotiates 1,2 billion with the Government

Wells Fargo also negotiates on American mortgages. The third largest US bank by assets and first by market capitalization will pay 1,2 billion dollars to settle a lawsuit opened in 2012 by the US government.

The institution was accused of having "frequently recklessly engaged in the signing and disbursement of loans guaranteed by the government", circumventing the provisions of the Federal Housing Administration, the US federal agency that supervises the real estate market.

The settlement dismisses civil charges filed by the Justice Department, two attorney generals and the housing and urban development departments.
