As he had long foretold, Alessandro Profumo presented today to the board of directors Monte dei Paschi his resignation as president, which will take effect from next 6 August.

Once the last one is completed 3 billion capital increase of the Sienese bank, the Genoese banker had for months expressed his willingness to leave the Monte to undertake a new professional activity in the financial field where he will concentrate on strengthening and increasing the size of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The candidate today in pole position to replace Profumo at the top of Mps is the current president of the Italian stock exchange, Massimo Tononi, which is supported by the MPS Foundation and its allies.
