Mps at the crossroads: either a partner or the sale plan starts, with the former Antonveneta branches in the lead

The ECB insists that Monte dei Paschi be strengthened with a merger but if a new partner does not arrive for the bank of Siena, the only thing left is the path of transfers: in the lead is the sale of the former Antonveneta branches and then those of the former Bam and the former Banca del Salento

Mps at the crossroads: either a partner or the sale plan starts, with the former Antonveneta branches in the lead

Either a banking partner arrives or the sales start: this is the crossroads facing Monte dei Paschi, which, after the success of the last 3 billion euro capital increase, must comply with the recommendations of the ECB.

The European central bank led by Mario Draghi insists that the Sienese bank secure itself through a merger with a banking partner but these days it is not easy to go down this path and for now there is nothing concrete on the horizon.

This is why the managing director of Mps, Fabrizio Viola, who will soon have to be joined by a new president after Alessandro Profumo's decision to leave to cultivate a new personal professional project, begins to study plan B which essentially envisages the break up of the Sienese bank.

The reorganization of the Monte would take place through the sale of some assets acquired in previous managements, namely the branches of the former AntonVeneta, which seemed to be the bank of the North East destined to pilot the take-off of Siena towards the size and role of a large national bank and which instead it turned into a source of trouble, also thanks to the unexpected collapse of the financial markets, but also the branches of the former Banca Agricola Mantovana and those of the former Banca del Salento.
