Attack on the Olympia shopping center in Munich, Germany, in the same neighborhood that was the focus of the Olympics bombing. The news is still fragmentary but the first official communications are starting to arrive. German media, including the N-TV website, reported "gunshots" in a Munich shopping center and a "large deployment of forces" by the police.
"Several people have died" the website of the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported in the early hours, but the official toll at the moment is at least seven dead. The number of injured is not known but they would be numerous and have been hospitalized in hospitals near the shopping center. The subway was closed. According to an initial reconstruction, the killers would have managed to escape.
After an initial moment, a state of emergency was triggered to deal with what is defined by the authorities as "a serious terrorist attack". The doctors were called to the hospital, and the intervention of the special units was requested. The maximum alert has been triggered and people have been asked by the Ministry of the Interior not to leave their homes since the three killers are still on the run.
According to N24 TV there are at least 10 injured. Three men armed with handguns allegedly began firing on the crowd that had gone to the mall in the afternoon. One of them climbed onto the roof of the shopping center and shouted: "I am German".
"The police are very nervous, groups of 10-12 policemen patrol the area where the shooting took place and move weapons in hand in all directions". This was reported by a reporter of the Bavarian public television BR who is on site. Special troops, firefighters and dozens of ambulances arrived on the scene. "The entire area around the Olympia shopping center has been evacuated, police action is ongoing."
