Mfe-MediaForEurope he has to give up on his French dream. “RTL has decided to keep its controlling stake in the M6 ​​group. The announcement came late yesterday evening by RTL, a German subsidiary of the Bertelsmann group, which holds 48,3% of French TV.

Last week after the farewell to the wedding with Rf1, the first transalpine television broadcaster, for Antitrust reasons, the advisor JpMorgan had collected the non-binding offers for M6 from various operators, among which the one presented by the group led by Pier Silvio Berlusconi stood out which, precisely for the purpose of giving the assault on French TV, had tightened an unprecedented alliance with Xavier Niel, FIliad waver.

The reasons for the decision 

“The decision follows one review of strategic options – reads a note – after the group received financially attractive offers for its 48,3% of M6”. 

“We will continue to pursue our strategy to build national media groups of sufficient size to compete with US platforms“, commented CEO Thomas Rabe. 
According to rumors, the Mfe-Niel consortium had put on the plate about 1,2 billion euros, a figure similar to that offered by the consortium of French entrepreneurs made up of transport tycoon Rodolphe Saadé, Stephane Courbit, founder of the Banijay production house and Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière, former majority owner of Fitch.
