Metalworkers: Assolombarda and the unions create a new "joint territorial observatory"

Assolombarda and trade unions in the metalworking sector in the Milan area (Fim Cisl, Fiom Cgil and Uilm Uil) signed an agreement on Monday to establish theTerritorial Joint Observatory. The objective of this new tool, reads a note, is "to govern and monitor the most relevant issues in the Milanese mechanical sector".

What will the new Observatory do?

In particular, the Observatory "will analyze the economic and social situation relating to the engineering industry in the Milan area - continues the note - through the processing of data relating to the sector's performance in terms of productivity, employment, use of social safety nets, crisis situations and company supplementary bargaining”.

Assolombarda's comment

“The establishment of the Observatory is unique on the national territory and will represent an advanced point of comparison – commented Diego Andreis, vice president of Assolombarda with responsibility for Labor, Safety and Welfare Policies – The agreement confirms the positive and constructive relations with trade union organisations, in the wake of the Milanese tradition. In addition to the added value of having a territorial tool shared with the union aimed at analyzing the dynamics of the sector and offering food for thought and stimulus, it will be able to collect useful information to be used in the context of national collective bargaining”.

The position of the unions

Marco Giglio, general secretary of Fim-Cisl Milano Metropoli, Roberta Turi, general secretary of Fiom-Cgil Milano, and Vittorio Sarti, general secretary of Uilm-Uil Milano Monza and Brianza write in a joint note: "The agreement signed today incorporates the contents of the CCNL both with respect to second-level bargaining and with respect to the state of the engineering industry in our area. Based on the data that we will analyze and share, for us the objective of this agreement is the relaunch and extension of bargaining in companies in order to guarantee greater rights and protections for male and female workers. At the same time, in this phase marked by major transformations, we hope that the agreement reached will serve to manage the processes of change and reorganization of companies, avoiding negative social impacts".
