From day to day, the historic Emilian chain of stores went bankrupt: all 55 stores throughout Italy closed and the 1.800 workers, suddenly left without a job, discovered it through social media.
Indeed, according to Filcams-Cgil of Reggio Emilia, Shernon Holding, the company that managed the sales outlets of Mercatone Uno, was declared bankrupt and according to the reconstruction given by the union, the workers arrived learned about the bankruptcy through word of mouth on the social network, only during the night: "There was no official communication from the company", explained Luca Chierici, secretary of Filcams of Reggio Emilia. In a joint note with Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs Uil, the unions then announced that "tonight it was learned that the Milan court declared the company bankrupt and the directors communicated to the workers the ban on accessing the company premises".
