The increase in motorway tolls will secure €13 billion in project financing, according to Infrastructure Minister Maurizio Lupi, who expects the concessionaires' response to the government's request for discounts for commuters by the end of this week.
Today, the minister confirmed the current system, which ties investments to toll increases, but opened the way to the development of solutions that could address the price increases. According to Lupi, there are three other options for mitigating the increases: "reviewing the priority of investments," "extending concessions," and possibly "merging adjacent or functional highway sections." However, all of this must be done quickly.
