Lufthansa has chosen Carsten Spohr, 47, currently head of the airline's passenger division, as replacement for the chairman of the management board Christoph Franz (who will lead the Swiss group Roche).

Spohr, who has sat on the Lufthansa board for three years, will take up his new position on May 2015st. “I am very happy to hold this important position – he declared – and I am convinced that the company is on the right track. Spohr's appointment brings to an end a long period of speculation about the identity of the new head of Lufthansa after Franz surprisingly announced his resignation last September. Spohr's replacement in the passenger division will be decided by the supervisory board by the end of April.
