Lega, Bossi does not run again as secretary: go-ahead for Maroni

The Senatùr has changed his mind. Umberto Bossi has officially given the green light to Roberto Maroni's "single candidacy" as the next secretary of the League. The investiture will come at the next party congress. The green light of the now former leader of the Carroccio, according to what has been learned, arrived during the last meeting of the Federal Council in via Bellerio.

Two weeks ago, in Zanica (Bergamo) for the "United League Day", Bossi senior had announced to Padania his intention to reapply to federal secretary of the League, a role he held for twenty years and abandoned last April after the "Belsito affair".

A surprise that created quite a few embarrassments for Bobo Maroni. The scandals that engulfed the Carroccio and "The family" had led the former minister to work to save the image of the Senatùr as a noble father, going so far as to guarantee that he would support his possible re-nomination for the most prestigious seat in the party. Today's reverse avoids the obligation to keep the uncomfortable promise.
