In the end, after a day of high tension that bordered on a government crisis, there is an agreement on the reform of the judiciary. Once again the wisdom of Prime Minister Mario Draghi won, who managed to get everyone to agree on the changes to be made to the Cartabia reform which will be submitted to the House of Representatives from Sunday XNUMXst August.
The main changes to the original text, which were approved unanimously by the Council of Ministers, provide for the imprescriptibility of terrorism and mafia crimes, but also of sexual and drug crimes, the trials of which will thus avoid the risk of ending up in smoke. On the other hand, the reform implies a series of interventions on the justice machine which will make it possible to speed up trials and thus meet citizens' expectations of rapid justice. But the main novelty is that for the first three years the statute of limitations is extended both in the Appeal and in the Cassation and that further extensions will be possible for the mafia, drug dealing, rape and terrorism trials.
On the threshold of the break, the Draghi prize was as peremptory as it was decisive: "We cannot go beyond this limit". And Giorgetti for the League and Di Maio for the Five Stars helped him pass the agreement in the Council of Ministers which brings with it the withdrawal of the rain of amendments that had also been presented in Parliament by the majority forces and which Sunday at 14 they will be called to approve the reform in the Chamber.
The justice reform is a mandatory condition of the European Commission to be able to disburse the funds of the Next Generation Eu to Italy and therefore its political value is enormous.
In words they are all satisfied: the Five Stars who claim the improvements made to the reform but also the Lega and Forza Italia who boast of having stemmed the pentastellato pressing. Letta's Democratic Party is also satisfied, applauding Draghi's mediation. Matteo Renzi of Italia Viva rejoices who exclaims: "The justicialism of Bonafede is over".
