Istat: GDP -2,4% in 2012, in the fourth quarter -2,8%

Compared to the previous quarter, the main aggregates of domestic demand recorded significant decreases, with drops of 0,5% for national final consumption and 1,2% for gross fixed investments.

Istat confirms: in 2012 the Italian GDP fell by 2,4%. The variation acquired for 2013 is equal to -1,0%. In the fourth quarter of last year alone, however, the gross domestic product recorded a -0,9% compared to the previous quarter and a -2,8% on an annual basis. 

Compared to the previous quarter, the main aggregates of domestic demand recorded significant decreases, with drops of 0,5% for national final consumption and 1,2% for gross fixed investments. Imports decreased by 0,9% and exports increased by 0,3%.

National demand net of inventories subtracted 0,6 percentage points from GDP growth, with contributions of -0,4 points from household consumption and -0,2 points from gross fixed investments. The change in inventories negatively contributed to the change in GDP by 0,7 percentage points. The contribution of net foreign demand, on the other hand, was positive by 0,4 percentage points.

The added value recorded negative cyclical variations for industry (-2,2%) and for services (-0,3%), while it increased by 0,6% in agriculture. In trend terms, added value fell in all sectors: -7,3% agriculture, -6,3% construction, -4,1% industry in the strict sense and -1,6% services .
