Istat: mortgages collapse, -18% in the third quarter of 2011

Overall, in the first nine months of 2011 there was a drop of 7,9% on an annual basis: -4,2% for those secured by mortgages and -13,4% for those without a real estate mortgage.

Credit in Italy is breathing less and less. In the third quarter of 2011, mortgages taken out in our country fell by 18,1% compared to the same period of the previous year, settling at 140.665.

In detail – according to the latest data published by Istat – those with a real estate mortgage (95.099) decreased by 6,7%, while loans not guaranteed by a real estate mortgage (45.566) decreased by 34,6%. 

Compared to the third quarter of 2010, sales of residential properties increased by 3,4%, those of commercial properties by 12,4%. 

In total in the first nine months of 2011 there was a drop of 7,9% on an annual basis (-4,2% for those secured by a mortgage and -13,4% for those without a real estate mortgage).
