Istat: exports recovering in October, +12%

In October, imports recorded a more contained growth, of 0,8% on year – Compared to the month of September, stable exports, while imports increased by 0,8% – The Italian trade balance, in the first ten months of the year, reports a positive balance of 6,5 billion.

Istat: exports recovering in October, +12%

In october exports recorded a growth of 12,0% on an annual basis, against a more contained increase, of 0,8%, in imports. Istat communicates the data on foreign trade. Exported volumes recorded a strong expansion of +8,6%, while imported volumes fell by 3,2%. 

Compared to the month of September, however, imports show a slight increase of 0,8%, while exports have remained stable, as a "synthesis of a limited cyclical growth in exports to non-EU markets (+0,7%) and a slight decrease in those on the EU markets (-0,6%)". As far as exports are concerned, it should be noted growth in sales of capital goods (+2,1%), against which the 5,4% contraction of durable consumer goods is contrasted.

The increase compared to September in imports was greater for non-EU countries (+1,1%) than for EU ones (+0,4%), thanks above all to the strong growth in purchases of capital goods, +5,3 %.

The trade balance for October reports a surplus of 2,5 billion euros, which is made up of the 1,5 billion surplus with non-EU countries and the 1 billion surplus with EU countries. The overall balance of Italian foreign trade in the first eight months, according to Istat, is positive for 6,5 billion, thanks above all to the strong surplus in the trade of non-energy products.
