According to data released by the Irish Central Statistics Office, Ireland's GDP returned to growth after 4 years, in 2011, marking an expansion of 0,7% - In the fourth quarter, however, GDP fell by 0,2% on a monthly basis and 2,2% on a trend basis.

For the first time in four years, the Irish economy is growing again. Ireland's GDP, in fact, as it hasn't happened since 2008, scored, to all of 2011, an expansion of 0,7%, according to initial estimates released by the Irish Central Statistics Office. In the fourth quarterhowever, as happened, moreover, in the entire Eurozone, Irish GDP, on the other hand, contracted, declining by 0,2% on the previous quarter and by 2,2% on an annual basis.

Ireland, which is one of the three countries to have recourse to aid from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, has gone through a very deep crisis in recent years. In 2008, in fact, its GDP contracted by 3%, in 2009 even by 7%, while in 2010 the negative change was limited to 0,4%.
