Italian public buildings are worth 283 billion

325 million square meters for an average value of 870 euros per square metre. Making a calculation, the value of Italian public real estate is equal to 283 billion euros between schools, homes, offices, barracks and so on and so forth. This was revealed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which published the data deriving from the census of over 1 million cadastral units carried out through a statistical-mathematical model based "on the data declared by about 7.500 Administrations involved in the survey of real estate referring to the year 2015”. Two years of work on which the estimates published today are based.

Going into detail, the value of publicly owned offices amounts to 70 billion, 50 billion are worth instead of schools and homes, 25 barracks, 4 sports facilities.

“74 percent of the value of the estimated real estate portfolio – the MEF says – is attributable to buildings owned by local administrations. The remaining 26 per cent of the total value is divided between central administrations (17 per cent), local administrations not included in the scope of consolidation of the public accounts (6 per cent) - including local authorities for residential construction - public bodies of social security and assistance (3 per cent)".

And again: from the buildings passed only the magnifying glass of via XX Settembre shows the total value of the portfolio is "mainly attributable to the buildings used directly by the PA - around 217 billion euros, equal to 77 per cent of the total - therefore not available in the short-medium term for development and disposal projects". The remaining 23 percent is given for use, free of charge or against payment, to private individuals (51 billion). How much is the value of the buildings left unused? 12 billion euros, while those under restructuring are worth 3 billion.
