Gedi, Telecom Italia, Mediobanca and Cdp: a glittering week

Gedi, Telecom Italia, Mediobanca, Cdp: a decidedly glittering week is starting for Corporate Italy.

Il board of Gedi, the publishing company of Repubblica, della Stampa, del Secolo XIX, dell'Espresso, Limes, local newspapers, radio and successful sites, met for the first time after the takeover offer of 29,9, XNUMX% advanced by Carlo De Benedetti, but already rejected by his children, who fear the sale of the newspaper - la Repubblica - which he has always been fond of.

The Engineer's advance literally sent Gedi's stock into orbit, which in the last week gained more than 23% on the Stock Exchange, recovering from the lows to which it was confined. Today, October 21st, however, there was a sharp turnaround with the stock that lost 6% weighted by the publication of the accounts. Gedi closed the first 9 months of 2019 with consolidated revenues down by 6% to 441,5 million euros and a loss of 18,3 million, against the previous loss of 17,3 million, mainly caused by the sale of Persidera.

In the meantime, the letter from the president of the Gedi Group, Marco De Benedetti, to the company's employees has also arrived. “We are not a broken bunch, we are not a group to be restored, we are not a boat without a helmsman", wrote De Bedenetti, underlining how together with his brother Rodolfo and Cir CEO Monica Mondardini he will continue "with commitment to carry out our role as shareholders of the company in order to guarantee her the best future”. The president also commented on the interview granted by his father Carlo to Corriere, highlighting how it contains "an attack on my brother Rodolfo and on me, a painful subject for us, which he places on a personal level and on which I wish not to comment ”.

However, the Gedi case will not be the only important event of the week. The board of directors is underway for the appointment of the new president of Telecom Italia (now Tim) in the very authoritative person of Salvatore Rossi, until last spring Director General of the Bank of Italy, destined to exercise the role of guarantee chairman for all the shareholders of the first Italian telephone company in view of the possible conversion of the shares of ordinary savings and especially the single network project between Tim and Open Fiber.

Thursday is also eagerly awaited, with two key events scheduled by companies that have recently enlivened the financial scene. The first is the conference call of the CEO of Mediobanca, Alberto Nagel, who will present the accounts of the Piazzetta Cuccia bank for the first quarter of 2019 but who could take the opportunity to respond to Leonardo Del Vecchio, the new aggressive shareholder of the bank who in no uncertain terms asked for more dynamic management of the institution.

Finally, on Thursday, there is the board of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (Cda), where, barring surprises, the resignation, announced for too long, of the president Massimo Tononi should be formalised. Gorno Tempini and Beltratti seem to be the most popular candidates, even if not the only ones in succession, but the nomination will still take some time.
