Flexibility, Moscovici in Padoan: "Decision on Italy in May"

Flexibility, Moscovici in Padoan: "Decision on Italy in May"

The decision on budget flexibility Italy's request to the EU will be accepted in May. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Pierre Moscovici, thus responding to the appeal launched by the Italian economy minister Pier Carlo Padoan: "We will give our answers in May, on the basis of the rules and in a spirit of support for reforms without contravening the Pact".

Yesterday Padoan had invited Brussels to hasten its assessment of Italy's requests, in terms of mitigations for the deficit, in order to settle an uncertainty that risks weighing on the country's growth.

Moscovici, in any case, opens up to dialogue between the parties: "We need a little serenity, work and patience, remembering that Italy is already and will be the only EU country to be able to benefit from such a large number of flexibility. Based on my political experience, I repeat that I am convinced that the spirit of dialogue and the compromise they must always prevail over the confrontation”.

“Contacts between me and Minister Padoan – concluded the EU head of economic and monetary affairs – are regular. Ours is an open and quality dialogue”.
