Responsible and sustainable finance in exponential growth: a study by Assopopolari

La responsible finance has made an exponential leap compared to a few years ago. The total stock of Green Bonds outstanding in the world, considering the issues surveyed up to now, stands at 1.500 billion dollars. In the first 11 months of 2021, global Green Bond issues reached almost 430 billion dollars, exceeding those of 100 by over 2020 billion, a year in which, despite the global crisis, they had already largely exceeded those of 2019. These are some data which emerge from a study by the National Association of Cooperative Banks entitled "Responsible finance" published these days.

“Financial activity – he declared Giuseppe DeLucia Lumeno, Secretary General of Assopopolari in presenting the publication – is not excluded from the debate on social and environmental issues that have overwhelmingly entered the political and economic agenda and, more concretely, that of the business world worldwide”.

Through this study, the National Association of Cooperative Banks "wants to provide the point of view of Credito Popolare on the subject of responsibility in finance, an essential element without which to speak of sustainability e inclusion it is completely irrelevant,” continued De Lucia Lumeno. "A necessary contribution to highlight the framework in which cooperative and local banks operate, an important segment of the banking system, also considering the importance they have gained within the international cooperative movement".

"A further step towards what was hoped for by the Governor of the Bank of Italy, Ignazio Visco in reaffirming 'clearly the commitment to pursue the strategy for environmental sustainability' which in finance means, above all, responsibility", concluded the secretary general of Assopopolari.
