Fibre: Tim and Infratel accelerate in the white areas

To deal with the coronavirus emergency – which it requires greater use of the ultra-broadband internet connection - Tim e Infratel Italy accelerate the wiring of Italy with the optical fiber. The ultimate goal is to put into operation the public network access infrastructures built by the Treasury company in 8 regions: Abruzzo, Sardinia, Tuscany, Puglia, Calabria, Lazio, Lombardy and Marche. “These are white areas under direct intervention by Infratel Italia and not under concession – writes Tim in a note – To date, interventions have already been carried out in 241 Municipalities that will become 310 by May thanks to the activation of over 1.600 cabinets”.

The initiative follows an agreement signed in July 2019 and involves the Municipalities involved in the intervention with the "direct model", which aims to create ultra-broadband networks in the "white areas" not subject to tenders in the past. About 1 million users will benefit from this intervention, in addition of course to the companies and public administrations of the territories concerned.

The new roadmap established by Infratel Italia and Tim speeds up the infrastructural interventions for the delivery of the fiber optic backbones by Infratel Italia. The path for the subsequent creation of the bindings up to the street cabinets and the installation of the electronic components by Tim is also accelerated.

The project involves for Tim a significant purchase of dark fiber infrastructure built by Infratel Italia, which will be used to bring ultra-broadband to the Municipalities identified by the project by creating networks in FTTC (653) and FTTH (15) technology.
