According to the German monthly Manager Magazin, the Volkswagen group is considering the partial or total purchase of Fiat-Chrysler.

Stock market, Fiat shines after sales data and rumors of an interest from Volkswagen

Sunny day in Piazza Affari for the Fiat share, which in the middle of the morning gained about four percentage points, to 7,91 euros, achieving the best increase of the Ftse Mib, in the same minutes in the red by 1%. Exor also did well: +2,35%, to 30,44 euros.

The purchases of Lingotto shares were triggered by the publication of the data on European registrations relating to the month of June. In the EU28, Fiat's sales grew by 7,1% compared to the same month in 2013, to 72.585 units. Market share rose year-on-year from 6% to 6,1%. In the first six months of the year, on the other hand, the growth in registrations was 2,5%, to 411.433 new cars, with a market share decreasing from 6,5 to 6,2%.

An indiscretion from Germany also affects the performance of the stock. According to the German monthly Manager Magazin, the Volkswagen group would be evaluating the partial or total purchase of Fiat-Chrysler, but the two automakers were still far from reaching an agreement.

For Volkswagen, writes Manager Magazin Online, integration with Chrysler would be a possible solution to the problems that the German company has always had on the US market. Some meetings on the possible passage of Fiat Chrysler to VW have already taken place with the participation of the first shareholder of the German company, Ferdinand Piech, and members of the Elkann and Agnelli families, as well as various negotiators.

According to industrial sources reported by the German monthly, Fiat Chrysler would like to concentrate in the future on the Ferrari sports brand and, instead, withdraw almost completely from the auto sector. Vw, Manager Magazin Online recalls, had repeatedly expressed interest in the past for the Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari brands but, at the moment, the interest of the Germans seems to be concentrated, during the negotiations, on Chrysler. FCA and VW responded to the rumors with a "no comment".

VW has encountered great difficulties in recent years in selling its models on the North American market and the top management of the Wolfsburg house hope to finally find a definitive solution to these problems with the acquisition of Chrysler with very concrete benefits for the Germans especially from the dense network of Chrysler dealerships and American SUV and Pick-up models.

Again according to the same sources, there are still several obstacles to overcome especially in terms of price, with a still very wide distance between the two parties, while Sergio Marchionne, CEO of FCA, would follow other strategic options for the group at the same time. Finally, Volkswagegn, the monthly points out, had already indicated in the past that it wanted to buy other commercial vehicle and truck manufacturers after the acquisition of Scania and Man, but it is unable to finance all these projects at the same time.
