With the release of the construction permit for the infrastructural works by the Municipality of Corato, Ferrotramviaria announces the total availability of the construction site areas for the construction of the doubling of the tracks of the Corato-Andria section.
In recent months, once the preparatory works had been completed, the works had started on the stretches under the responsibility of the municipalities of Trani and Andria. The section that falls within the municipal area of Corato is the most important in terms of construction as it is involved in the more demanding civil works, which include, among other things, the construction of two underpasses and an overpass necessary for the closure of a group of level crossings .
Of great importance, in fact, for the quality of the service and for the safety of the transport is that the intervention in progress also foresees the elimination of almost all the level crossings currently present in the section. At the end of the work of the ten level crossings currently existing, nine will be eliminated.
This elimination will allow for a considerable improvement in the safety rate and in the overall service, also in consideration of the numerous episodes of overcoming the barriers by cars and other mechanical means carried out in clear violation of the rules of the road. At the same time as the doubling of the railway line, a newly developed signaling system equipped with SCMT will be installed.
When the work is completed, the passengers of Andria and Corato will be able to use the rail transport connection with Bari again, which is now served by replacement buses. With the start of the doubling works in the approximately 10 km long section between Corato and Andria, 92% of the line managed by Ferrotramviaria, for approximately 78 km out of 84 km, will be equipped with double tracks.
