FeBAF: Luigi Abete is the new president

As anticipated from FIRSTonline on March 22, Luigi Abete is the new president of the Federation of Banks, Insurance and Finance. The official announcement came yesterday, with the unanimous election by the FeBAF Board of Directors. Abete succeeds Fabio Cerchiai, who has completed his two-year mandate, and will lead the Federation for the next two years. He will be joined by the vice presidents Aldo Minucci (president of ANIA), Giordano Lombardo (president of Assogestioni) and Innocenzo Cipolletta (president of Aifi), representing the federated members of the FeBAF. Assofiduciaria, Assoimmobiliare, Assoprevidenza and Assosim also adhere to the Federation as aggregate associates.

“Europe will be at the center of FeBAF's action – declared the new president -. The Italian vote for the European Parliament is a clear political signal for Rome and for Brussels. The Italian government has been asked for both change and governance, real reforms, more investments. For Europe, the message is to accelerate the paths of integration and growth. After the vote, our country - but also our sector, the economic engine of development - is stronger and will have more weight in promoting this acceleration. On the other hand, my associative experience has always been aimed at the best integration between the representatives of the main economic categories of the country; the position in FeBAF will commit me even more to strengthen the opportunities for collaboration between the different sectors of the economy”.

President of BNL Gruppo Paribas since 1998 and of A.BE.TE SpA, former vice president of FeBAF, Abete was, among other things, president of Confindustria, Assonime and the Luiss Guido Carli University. Cavaliere del Lavoro since 2000, he chairs and is a member of numerous boards of companies and cultural bodies. As soon as he was elected, Abete thanked Fabio Cerchiai for having led the Federation, after having founded it in 2008, increasing its representation with respect to the entire financial industry.
