FameLab: do you have the scientific X Factor? Explain science in 3 minutes and win

This time the talent show is scientific: explaining science in a few minutes to a non-specialist audience. Whoever wins participates in the world final in England. It starts tomorrow from Bologna and then in 6 other Italian cities

FameLab: do you have the scientific X Factor? Explain science in 3 minutes and win

Scientists, young researchers and university students gifted with scientific X Factor and aged between 18 and 40 years will be able to participate in FameLab Italia, whose Bolognese selection will be held on Wednesday 11 March 2015, at 19 pm, at La Scuderia (Piazza Verdi, 2).

Fame Lab is an event created by Cheltenham Science Festival and promoted worldwide since British Council in 28 different countries. In Italy the event is organized by Psiquadro – Perugia Science Fest, In collaboration with the British Council Italy.

Bologna is one of the seven cities (Ancona, Genoa, Naples, Padua, Perugia and Trieste) where the local selections are held which will lead to national final of the competition in Milan on 9 May 2015, as part of Expo 2015. For each city, 2 finalists will be selected, for a total of 14 candidates who will compete in science. As in any talent show, the participants are judged by a jury of experts from the world of science and communication. In Bologna the jury is made up of: Vincenzo Palermo (researcher, CNR ISOF); Nicola Pianzola (actor, Instabili Vaganti); Paola Salomoni (university professor, UniBo/DISI); Micol Todesco (researcher, INGV); Elisabetta Tola (journalist, formicaBlu).

The winner of FameLab Italia will participate in the international final of FameLab International, competing with 27 competitors from as many countries around the world. The race will take place from 2 to 7 June 2015 in Cheltenham in England, during the Cheltenham Science Festival.

FameLab Bologna is coordinated by'National Institute of Astrophysics/Institute of Space Astrophysics and Cosmic Physics of Bologna and from Golinelli Foundation, with the participation of University of Bologna, National Research Council (Bologna Research Area), National Institute of Nuclear Physics (Bologna section), National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Bologna section), ASTER Regional consortium for innovation and technology transfer and coordinator of the High Technology Network, INAF/Astronomical Observatory of Bologna and INAF/Radio Astronomy Institute. The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Bologna.

During the local selection, conducted by Danilo Maso Masotti, the participants will have 3 minutes to impress the judges. FameLab is looking for fascinating and engaging presentations that can be understood by everyone. It is permitted to bring items with you that do not require set-up time. Projections of videos or images are not permitted.

AWARDS FOR THE BOLOGNESE SELECTION

First place: cash prize (for participation in the national final), access to the final, access to the national Masterclass, free participation in one of the teacher training courses for the 2015/16 school year organized by the Golinelli Foundation (for information on the 2014 edition /15:www.fondazionegolinelli.it/programme-of-training-for-teachers).

Runner up: cash prize (for participation in the national final), access to the national final, access to the national Masterclass.

Third Place: entrance ticket to EXPO 2015, where the national final will be held on May 9th.
