Eurostat: Italian industrial production -5,2% in March, but the Eurozone is recovering

According to Eurostat data, industrial production in Italy suffered an annual decline of 5,2% in March, the worst among the major European economies – The data relating to the Eurozone marks a drop of 1,75 on year, but +1% on month.

Industrial production collapses in Italy which, in the month of March, scores a 5,2% year-on-year decline. This was reported by Eurostat, which specifies how the Italian downturn was the worst among the major European economies.

Il data from the Eurozone shows an overall drop of 1,7%, while the Europe of 27 States recorded a -1,1%. German industrial production decreased, down by 1,5%, as did French industrial production, which recorded a contraction of 1,6%. On the other hand, Holland stands out positively, with annual growth of 11,1%. Compared to the previous year, only energy production increased in the Eurozone (+9,2%). Strong decline for intermediate goods, -4,6%.

In general, however, there have been improvements on a cyclical basis: compared to the month of February, industrial production increased by 1% in the Eurozone and by 0,9% in the EU 27.

The Italian production index surveyed by Eurostat dropped to 91,3 points in March against 92,0 in February. The figure for Italy is far below the Eurozone average, which stands at 100,1 points.
