EU Commission: here are the 25 candidates for Ursula's court

The team of Ursula von der Leyen it is almost complete. In fact, with the exception of Italy and France, the other EU countries have sent candidates to Brussels for the Commission which will take office on November XNUMXst. The president has already started the first evaluation talks and around mid-September she will present a list of names to the EU Parliament.

Instead, the evaluation of the parliamentary commissions will arrive within the first week of October: for approval, the go-ahead of the group leaders or two thirds of the members of the commissions is needed (in the event of a rejection in the first instance, a second hearing is also possible).

The final vote on the Commission as a whole will be up to the plenary assembly of theEuropean Parliament, which will probably be expressed on 22 or 23 October.

Italy still has a few days to decide who will be its candidate. At the moment, the most likely names are those of Paolo Gentiloni, Piercarlo Padoan e Roberto Gualtieri.

Here is the list of candidate politicians from other countries:

  • Austria: Johannes Hahn (EPP);
  • Belgium: Didier Reynders (Renew Europe);
  • Bulgaria: Maryia Gabriel (EPP);
  • Croatia: Dubravka Suica (EPP);
  • Cyprus: Stella Kyriakides (EPP);
  • Denmark: Margrethe Vestager (Renew Europe);
  • Estonia: Kadri Simson (Renew Europe);
  • Finland: Jutta Urpilinen (S&D);
  • Greece: Margaritis Schinas (EPP);
  • Ireland: Phil Hogan (EPP);
  • Latvia: Vladis Dombrovskis (EPP);
  • Lithuania: Virginijus Sinkevicius (Greens);
  • Luxembourg: Nicolas Schmit (S&D);
  • Malta: Helena Dalli (S&D);
  • Holland: Frans Timmermans (S&D);
  • Poland: Krzysztof Szczereski, indicated in the first place, should be replaced by Janusz Wojciechowski (conservative);
  • Portugal: Elisa Ferreira (S&D);
  • Czech Republic: Vera Jourova (Renew Europe);
  • Romania: Dan Nica or Rovana Plumb (S&D);
  • Slovakia: Marcos Sefcovic (S&D);
  • Slovenia: Janez Lenarcic (independent);
  • Spain: Josep Borrell (S&D);
  • Sweden: Ylva Johansson (S&D);
  • Hungary: Laszlo Trocsanyi (EPP).

In view of Brexit, scheduled for October 31st, the Britain did not nominate any candidate for the Commission.

The vice presidents of the new executive will almost certainly be Timmermans e Vestager, while Borrell he will replace Mogherini as High Representative for the Union's foreign policy.
