From January to June, the Treasury collected 1% more than a year ago. Spike in direct taxes and gaming revenues

Revenue growing in the first six months

In the first six months of 2011, tax revenues amounted to 183,217 billion, up 1% or 1,857 billion over the same period in 2010. The data are those provided by the Finance Department. In particular, Ire revenue shows an increase of 0,9% (+696 million euro), Ires revenue falls from 11.842 to 9.962 million; indirect taxes recorded an increase of 4,9% (+4.063 million euros) compared to the same period of 2010.

VAT revenue shows a tendential increase of 3,3%; revenues relating to games, overall, show a growth of 20,1% (+1.177 million euros) driven by revenues from lottery (+39,9%, equal to +958 million euros) and revenues from devices and gadgets gaming (+13,4% equal to +230 million euro).

Revenue from transaction taxes is in line with that of the same period of the previous year, net of an exceptional income recorded in February 2010. The trend in collections from roles relating to assessment and control activities was also positive which recorded a tendential increase of 32,4% (+791 million euros), explains the note.

Tax revenue calculated according to the cash accounting criterion in the first six months of the year amounted to 176,479 billion euro. This was announced by the public finance supplement to the Bank of Italy's statistical bulletin. Bankitalia estimates tax revenue according to the economic cash criterion, unlike the Treasury which measures total revenue (tax plus local authorities). In June, cash receipts amounted to 35,985 billion compared to 41,116 billion a year earlier.
